Calendar of Events for 2018

TechFest, February 17 (Saturday 10 AM to 6 PM) & February 18 (Sunday 11 AM to 5 PM). Location: Sinclair Community College, David Ponitz Center (Building 12), 301 West Fourth Street, Dayton, Ohio 45402. TechFest is a family event with many organizations participating that is aimed at inspiring K – 12 grade students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM). The Mars Society will have a display, and Mars Society members John Thomas and Jerry Black will be giving presentations at this event. Volunteers are much needed to help with this event.

Loveland Intermediate School Science Day, March 9 (Friday 8:45 AM to 2 PM). The Mars Society is one of several organizations providing speakers at this event, which is aimed at inspiring 5th and 6th grade students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM). A short presentation and an interactive exercise will be given to 7 different classes.

Cincinnati Science & Engineering Expo, March 10 (Saturday 8 AM till noon). This event is a regional science fair for students grades 6 - 12 that is held at the University of Cincinnati. The students that participate in the science fair are very bright and have an interest in science and engineering. The Ohio Mars Society provides two prizes (first place $100 and second place $50) for projects pertaining to space science, technology, or exploration. We supply our own judges to pick the winners of these prizes.  Breakfast is provided, followed by a judges training session, followed by the judging.  We’re done judging by lunch time, then a free lunch for the volunteers is provided. Volunteers are much needed to act as judges to pick the winners of the Mars Society prizes.

Springboro Stem Fest, March 19 (Monday, 5:30 PM till 8:30 PM). Location: Springboro High School, 1675 S. Main Street, Springboro, OH 45066. This is a family event with many organizations participating that is aimed at inspiring K – 12 grade students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM). The Mars Society will have a display. Volunteers are much needed to help with this event.

Spring Xtreme STEM event, April 21 (Saturday, 9 AM till 2 PM). Location: 2551 Thunderhawk Court, Dayton, OH 45414). This is a robotic competition which also includes exhibits by many participating organizations. The aim is to inspire K – 12 grade students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM). The Mars Society will have a display. Volunteers are much needed to help with this event.

20th Annual International Mars Society Convention, August 23 through August 26. Location: Pasadena Convention Center, Pasadena, CA 91101. Includes both plenary sessions and track sections with excellent speakers.

iSpace Day, October 6 (Saturday, 10 AM to 2 PM). Location: 300 Scarlet Oaks Drive, Cincinnati, OH 45241. This is a family event with many organizations participating that is aimed at inspiring K – 12 grade students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM). The Mars Society will have a display table at this event. Volunteers are needed to help with this event.
